Nature Park of São Miguel
Portugal has one national park. Other designated natural areas encompass 12 natural parks, 9 natural reserves, 5 natural monuments, and 7 protected landscapes. I visited five sites within the Nature Park of São Miguel in 2017.
Nature Reserves: protected and managed to preserve natural conditions.
I visited 1) Lagoa do Fogo.
Natural Monuments: protect and preserve unique natural elements; promote research, education, and public appreciation.
I visited 1) Caldeira Velha and 3) Pico das Camarinhas – Ponta da Ferrari
Protected Landscapes: protect and maintain nature and other values created through humans’ traditional interactions.
I visited both 1) Sete Cidades and 2 Furnas.
